Sertraline and it’s effects.

Sertraline (also known as Zoloft) has many side affects, mainly that I spend at least 23 hours a day either sleeping or thinking of sleeping. The other hour is from when I wake up, to when I take my tablets! I’m literally like the Duracell bunny!

One of the other wonderful (!) Side effects is that frankly my sex drive has driven away… Gone, poof! Literally I’ve gone from ⬆ to ⬇ however I do have really quite real sex dreams! That is literally the only time I feel. It’s quite awkward, as I talk in my sleep!!

My previous post ‘sex, porn and self love’ obviously shows how things have changed within the last 6 months.

I feel like the tablets obviously really help. Otherwise I wouldn’t be taking them. My anxiety is lower and I feel more like my mood is stable. However the side effects make me so tired I rarely exercise and have no sex drive. Fun.

When taking tablets is it the lesser of two evils?

Do tablets really work?

Love Sooz x

  1. How long have you been on them for? If it’s been a while, and they’re still making you sleepy, and taking away the sex drive, then chances are these aren’t the right ones for you. 🙂 There’s tons of options when it comes to anti depressants (wehther for anxiety, pain, depression or fatigue), so it’s more of a trial and error to find the correct one for you.

Both me and the wife have tried Zoloft. Made me feel like I was “in a bubble” (don’t really know how else to describe it. It was like nothing effected me, neither good nor bad), and triggered BPii in the wife. Hahaha.

    Good luck!

  2. Important with you here!
My dose has just been doubled and most of the time I don’t want to do anything. A small amount of time (usually before bed) I get all my cleaning done and tasks that I just couldn’t be bothered to do before. I don’t feel a huge difference but those around me tell me different! X

  3. Been taking sertraline for a month and they have worked for me. Still lacking bit of get up and go but my concentration levels have improved. Maybe it isn’t right for you. Good luck.

  4. I had the same symptoms. They helped pretty well with my anxiety, but I eventually went off of the medication after 3 years and immediately felt a spike in my sex drive. However, I experienced really intense anxiety only a few months later, so I tried Buspar (which didn’t work) and now I’m on Lexapro, which is great! My anxiety has drastically reduced, and my sex drive is MUCH better! So…basically it’s a double-edged sword. If you’re concerned about your drive and your low energy, consider talking to your doctor about it. If it’s not your biggest concern, keep on trying it. It’s different for everyone. Thank you for sharing! This is SO important to discuss.

  6. I’d definitely be talking to my doctor because it often takes several goes to find the medication that fits and it sounds like this one doesn’t.

  7. I’m currently getting off of this drug and wow lol. All the side effects from both the drug and my anxiety I forgot about. This drug hasn’t messed up my sex drive or anything like that, but it messes with my stomach and I have vivid dreams for a good week or so. I was only on 25mg and I’m doing half of that every other day now. I might have to just stick with the half every day if I feel like I can’t beat the anxiety and the withdrawal symptoms. Thankfully, once my body gets used to taking the drug (usually around 4 days) my stomach returns back to normal. I did experience weight gain though with this drug, about 10 pounds for the year that I was on it.
